Essential Ethics I
This basic course focuses on the foundation of legal ethics, including the history of ethics rules and the guidelines for the utilization of paralegal services. The importance of understanding the attorney’s ethical obligation will be stressed. Moving on from these established rules, participants will review the issues of attorney supervision, the unauthorized practice of law and conflicts of interest. Codes of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as recent case law and ethics opinions, will be employed as basic references. (90 minutes)

Essential Ethics II
This basic course continues the lessons learned in Basic Ethics I, with a focus on confidentiality and attorney-client privilege, fees, billing and client funds, prohibited communications and the duty of candor. Participants will also be exposed to a brief overview of the application of ethics rules to technological advances such as cell phones, e-mail, web sites and research on the Internet. Codes of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as recent case law and ethics opinions, will be employed as basic references.

Advanced Ethics: Complex Issues for Attorneys, Paralegals and Other Legal Professionals
This ninety-minute course covers important ethics issues, including up-to-date rules and case law covering: ~Regulation and disciplinary procedures ~ The Unauthorized Practice of Law ~ Confidentiality and Privilege ~ Ethics Rules for Litigation ~ Ethics and Technology ~ and much more. (90 minutes)

Let’s Get Ethical…Let’s Get Technical
This course focuses on complex ethics issues faced by legal professionals…attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and other legal support professionals…as they deal with technology in the work place. Participants explore the ethical perils of law firm technology, including e-discovery, Metadata, Web sites, blogs, e-mail, cell phones, faxes and more.  Participants will also explore issues of social media and cloud computing. The dangers of breaching the duties of confidentiality and privilege are emphasized. (90 minutes)

Dollars and $ense: The Ethical Handling of Client Property by Paralegals and Attorneys
The receipt and handling of client property presents numerous ethical and legal dilemmas for attorneys and paralegals.  Ms. Voisin presents a comprehensive study of these dilemmas, including the proper course of action when client property is received, the implementation and use of the lawyer’s trust account, setting fees and billing clients, and the supervision of nonlawyer employees.  The Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility adopted by various professional associations, the American Bar Association’s Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as recent case law and ethics opinions, will be referenced. (Note: This course may vary to present information that is specific to paralegals in a particular state.)

Ethics Tips: How to Plan For and Meet Critical Deadlines
In this 60-minute teleclass, paralegals and attorneys learn the proven Paralegal Mentor method for ending procrastination to get their work done on time every time so that crucial deadlines are met. (60 minutes)

She publishes a weekly ezine titled Paralegal Strategies and is also the co-host of The Paralegal Voice, a monthly podcast produced by Legal Talk Network. Vicki is also the co-author of The Professional Paralegal: A Guide for Finding a Job and Career Success published by Pearson/Prentice Hall.

Vicki earned her B.A. degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University and received her Advanced Paralegal Certification (ACP) from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).
